Sneak Peek: Team Owner & Multi-Admin Support Coming in OpenBOM April 2025 Release

As OpenBOM continues to grow with our customers, we’re seeing more companies adopt the platform across multiple departments — from engineering and manufacturing to procurement and operations. With this growth comes the need for stronger team management and more flexible administration.

In the April 2025 release, we’re addressing that need by introducing two major improvements to OpenBOM’s team model: a clearly defined Team Owner role and the ability to assign multiple team admins. These enhancements give organizations better control, smoother operations, and eliminate the friction of managing access across growing teams.

Team Ownership

The first major change is the introduction of the Team Owner role. This is the person who created the team, initially manages the subscription, and adds users. The billing email will be associated with the Team owner, and in the future, updates will also be integrated. This role makes sure your team always has a go-to person in charge of governance and continuity.

No More “Single Admin” Bottleneck

In the past, OpenBOM teams were limited to a single administrator. That worked well for small teams but quickly became a pain point as more users joined and more coordination was required. If the admin was unavailable — on vacation, changed roles, or left the company — everything came to a halt.

With this release, we’re removing that bottleneck. Team Owners can now assign the Admin role to multiple users, allowing for distributed responsibility. Admins can add or remove team members, manage catalogs, templates, access controls, and more. This change brings much-needed flexibility and ensures your team never loses momentum.

Simple and Self-Managed

The best part? You don’t need to contact OpenBOM support to make these changes anymore. Everything is now self-managed. Team Owners can log in, visit the Team Settings, and assign or remove admin roles with just a few clicks. It’s fast, intuitive, and designed to give you full control without waiting on external help.

Why It Matters

These improvements are about more than just convenience. They reflect the reality of how modern teams work — collaboratively, across roles, and at speed. By enabling multiple admins and defining ownership clearly, OpenBOM helps you stay agile while maintaining structure and accountability.

Whether you’re onboarding new engineers, coordinating across global locations, or responding to urgent requests, you now have the administrative tools to support the pace of your team.

Watch the Sneak Peek Video

To help you get familiar with these new capabilities, we’ve created a short sneak peek video that walks through the new Team Owner and Admin features in action. In under three minutes, you’ll see exactly how to assign roles, manage your team, and stay in control — even as you grow.

Conclusion: Coming This April

I know you want to see this new feature coming asap. These new admin and role management features will be available in April 2025 for all OpenBOM Team and Company accounts. As always, we’ll provide updated documentation and a smooth rollout experience.

Thank you for growing with OpenBOM — and stay tuned for more exciting updates coming this release.
