AECBOM First Preview – OpenBOM Add-in for Autodesk Revit

At OpenBOM we focus on building a scalable and powerful platform that can be helpful in many industries. Each industry is different and today, I want to talk about what you can do with OpenBOM in construction and why it is important. 

Why AEC? 

The Manufacturing and AEC industry is on a collision course. Many AEC companies these days are looking for manufacturing technologies to improve the way they do design, planning, and construction. At OpenBOM, we’ve been looking at the AEC industry as a potential place to expand our business and these days we are coming very close to sharing more about what we are planning to do with AECBOM

In this article, I will make a short preview of our first steps with the OpenBOM add-in for Autodesk Revit, in which you can see how to create a Bill of Quantity using OpenBOM directly from Revit. 

OpenBOM For Revit Add-in 

The Add-in is available directly in Revit and has settings and connectivity to OpenBOM cloud exactly like all other OpenBOM CAD Add-ins. Once the connection is done, you can create Bill of Quantity reports using flexible setups. 

In this first version, we demonstrate how you can select families of objects for the report. 

Once the BOQ (Bill of Quantity) is generated, you can get data access and manipulate these data in OpenBOM collaborative user interface. 

These are not only Bill of Quantities but full functionality of OpenBOM data management, sharing, calculations, and collaboration.

Conclusion 

OpenBOM is expanding and this is the first glimpse of what we are planning to do for AECBOM.com. Stay tuned- the current add-in is just a first demonstration of OpenBOM’s future capabilities in Architecture, Engineering, and Construction.
