Sneak Peek Friday: OpenBOM Octopart Bulk Update & Sync

Manufacturers are always looking for ways to make their operations more efficient and cost-effective. One way to do this is by taking advantage of online catalogs of electronic components. In a modern manufacturing process, online information is a dealbreaker to knowing what to purchase, how to compare prices, and how to ensure your BOM contains the most up-to-date information such as price, vendor, availability, etc. Integration with these catalogs can save you time and money by allowing you to find the right component quickly and easily. As a manufacturer, you know that keeping your BOM (bill of materials) up-to-date is critical to ensuring an efficient production. However, managing your BOM can be time-consuming and error-prone.

OpenBOM Octopart Integrations

We always think about how to make our work in the most efficient way. Integration with Octopart makes it really easy to get all information about electronic components without spending time searching for this information manually. Early this year, we demonstrated how you can bring data from Octopart to create a new part. That was only the first step. We didn’t finish yet and are looking at how to make it support easy and fast.

Bulk Upload and Sync

Our newest addition to Octopart integration is to make it seamless and easy for all use cases, including the use case when you have a list of Octopart parts and you need to import the information from Octopart in bulk upload and to refresh the information that already exists in OpenBOM.

Starting from the next release, you will be able to do so, by creating a catalog with the list of Part Numbers from Octopart and running the process to sync the data between Octopart online catalog and the OpenBOM custom catalog.

The following information needs to be prepared in a catalog to bulk upload information from Octopart:

  • Catalog Supplier must be “Octopart” (only these items in a catalog will be updated)
  • Manufacturer Part Number to allow to OpenBOM to find Octopart data

We recommend having automatically (or manually) generated OpenBOM Part Number. Here is an example of the catalog prepared for Octopart sync.

And this is what you will get in return after the sync.

Bulk Upload and Sync

Importing and synching data automatically with the Octopart catalog gives you a super easy way to establish your company catalog of components you can use. It saves time for the initial load and also allows you to keep the data up to speed.

Conclusion

Integrating online data sources is a big deal. While other data management software OpenBOM is easy to integrate with online sources such as Octopart. More to come. OpenBOM has a great feature that allows users to bring in data from different places and manage it all in one place automatically. The seamless OpenBOM Octopart integration makes it easy for users to find the data they need and improve their productivity. Doing it for Octopart opens the door to massive online data integration and simplifies the way data is transferred.

If you’re looking for an easy way to manage your data, give OpenBOM a try. Register for OpenBOM for free and see how it can help you streamline your data management process.

Best, Oleg
