OpenBOM User Stories – War With Excel

Manufacturing companies need to streamline their product development process, but they are unfortunately stuck in Excel to manage BOMs, change processes, and share data using various tools such as cloud file sharing and email transfers.

OpenBOM SaaS PLM platform gives these companies a way to transform their processes, to manage data, integrate with engineering and design tools, and share data across multiple teams and organizations.

Today, I want to introduce a few customer’s stories of how OpenBOM helped companies to get out of “Excel business”, to organize their work using OpenBOM, to improve the process, and to get results using the unique characteristics of OpenBOM as a flexible and scalable tool.

Shredlights

“Shredlights customers can configure any combination of mounts, lights, colors, and accessories. On the backend, OpenBOM creates a planning BOM, and flatten BOM to get exact item quantities,” says Head of Product Kyle Kitzmiller. Learn more about Shredlights story here.

EA Manufacturing

“My client was stuck with 1.GB of STEP files. We uploaded the files to @Autodesk Fusion360 and found 24K parts, which OpenBOM handled nicely. Flattening BOM helped to calculate the exact quantities. It could not be done without OpenBOM. Read more here.

Stone Aerospace

Stone Aerospace needed to organize parts, assemblies, and track orders. OpenBOM saves data from SOLIDWORKS, extends it using a flexible data model. It allows us to create a close-loop PO tracking” says Scott Lelievre, Mechanical Engineer at Ston. Learn more here

 Pierson Workholding

OpenBOM offers a complete Design to Purchase process which includes BOM, Order Planning BOMs, Vendor Lists, POs, as well as inventory control of Quantity on Hand” says Carlos Acosta, a chief problem solver at Pierson Workholding. Learn more here

X-Naut

OpenBOM’s ability to quickly bring together design and vendor information into a purchase order and manage quantity on hand helps us manage demand and inventory at our off-shore facilities” says X-naut CEO Darren Saravis. Learn more here

CATIM

We needed to make a BOM from Autodesk Fusion 360. I went to my keyboard and quickly discovered OpenBOM says CATIM design manager. We gave it a try and are now saving literally hundreds of hours a year with OpenBOM. Learn more here.

Conclusion

OpenBOM is an online (SaaS) platform, which provides a way to manage product information. The foundation of OpenBOM is a flexible multi-tenant SaaS data management platform. Combined with a rich set of CAD data integrations and simple yet powerful planning capabilities it is an ideal tool for small and medium-sized companies to escape Excel and to organize their product development, planning, and purchasing processes.
