How to create a well organized BOM?

This question is asked by OpenBOM users and customers more often than you can think about. Although you can think about BOM as a list of parts in the drawing, this way of thinking about information about a product, parts, cost and many other related pieces of data is very simplistic.

We are often asked by our users about best practices of organizing Bill of Materials information, managing part masters and revisions and changes.

A few weeks ago, we organized a webinar to discuss BOM management best practices. If you missed this webinar, don’t worry – we got you covered. In the video below, you can watch a full recording of the webinar as well as a slide deck

Conclusion.

Managing of Bill of Materials goes much beyond attaching a simple part list to the drawing. It requires organizing information about the product to support a variety of activities such as managing data, calculating the cost, managing revisions and changes. I hope you learned about it. Let’s get to know each other better. If you live in the Greater Boston area, I invite you for a coffee together (coffee is on me). If not nearby, let’s have a virtual coffee session — I will figure out how to send you a real coffee.
