VIDEO: File Storage Features And Item Revisions

In my short video today, I’d like to preview several new features coming in the next OpenBOM release that is soon coming. The enhancements are related to the new item revision mechanism in the catalog and OpenBOM file storage mechanism.

File Storage

OpenBOM is moving the file storage functions from “beta” support level. File storage will be included in OpenBOM subscriptions and provide a secure place to store any file (specifications, documents, CAD files, and many others).

In the video today, I will demonstrate improvements in seamless storage and browser integration allowing our clients to preview files in the browser without the need to download the file first. It seems to be a small feature, but it improves the way users will interact with the files stored in the item catalog.

Item Revisions and File Storage

I already started to preview improvements of OpenBOM item revision mechanism for catalogs. If you missed my earlier article, please check it out here – Item Revisions. Not only does the Item revision mechanism allow you to store revision records for each item with appropriate metadata, but it will be seamlessly able to save files and their revision. Each item can have files stored in reference properties and each item revision will store these files separate revision, so you will have the full record of item data (including revisions).

Conclusion

OpenBOM file storage and item revision functions will provide a powerful set of features to support item versioning mechanisms combined with the ability to seamlessly store and manage file records. The function is the answer to the demand of OpenBOM customers to seamlessly manage full product lifecycle records including item data and associated files.
