Video blog #9 – CAD Data Beyond PDM

In this video, I’m talking about CAD integrations transformation. Traditional CAD integrations are focusing on how to manage files on PDM vaults to get control of storing files, managing versions, and access by engineers.

At OpenBOM we created a set of very unique CAD integrations focusing on extracting data from CAD files in a granular form to calculate quantity rollup, extract descriptions, part numbers, geometry, materials, and many other pieces of information.

Also, OpenBOM CAD integrations are tuned for BOM extraction taking into account configurations, purchased parts, and other specific needs for BOM extractions.

Conclusion

OpenBOM gives you a unique set of CAD-ins to extract granular data that can be used to create a bill of materials with information that can be used in a variety of downstream processes – cost calculations, production planning, purchasing and others. The value of data is increasing if you can share the data downstream. From that standpoint, OpenBOM increases the value of your design data by streamlining multiple downstream processes and making data available.
