Over the past few weeks, we’ve received reports from some customers experiencing issues when using OpenBOM with Autodesk Fusion. We want to share what we know, what’s causing the problem, and what we’re doing about it—openly and without spin.

This article is meant to keep you informed and help set expectations while OpenBOM and Autodesk engineering teams work through recent platform changes together.

What’s happening

Autodesk has been rolling out Collaborative Hubs in Fusion, upgrading accounts that previously ran on legacy hubs. These hubs introduce new backend behavior and updated APIs.

Some OpenBOM customers may notice issues after their Fusion hub is upgraded. These issues are not related to how you’re using OpenBOM or Fusion—they are a result of platform changes.

Who may be affected

You may be affected if:

  • Your Autodesk Fusion account was recently upgraded from a legacy hub to a Collaborative Hub
  • OpenBOM for Fusion previously worked as expected and began behaving differently after the hub upgrade

Not all customers are impacted. The behavior depends on hub type and account configuration.

Root cause (high-level and transparent)

Here is the technical reality at a high level:

  • Autodesk Fusion Collaborative Hubs use updated APIs
  • In Collaborative Hub mode, some legacy APIs are no longer supported
  • The current production version of OpenBOM for Fusion was built against those legacy APIs

As a result, certain operations may fail or behave inconsistently when run inside a Collaborative Hub.

In addition, some customers may experience unrelated Fusion platform issues, such as:

  • Ongoing Autodesk API refinements in Collaborative Hubs
  • Performance or data-handling behavior when working with very large datasets

These behaviors are part of an evolving cloud platform and are not specific to OpenBOM.

What OpenBOM is doing

  • We have identified the compatibility gap
  • OpenBOM engineers are actively updating the Fusion integration to support Collaborative Hub APIs
  • Our engineering team is working directly with Autodesk engineers to validate behavior and ensure correct alignment
  • A compatibility update for OpenBOM for Autodesk Fusion is in progress
  • The updated release is currently scheduled for next week

We will communicate again as soon as the update is available.

How to check if your Fusion hub is a Collaborative Hub

Autodesk provides guidance on how to identify whether your Fusion hub is running in Collaborative Hub mode:

This is the fastest way to determine whether this issue may apply to your account.

What to do now

  • For questions related to Fusion hub configuration or Collaborative Hub migration, contact your Autodesk reseller or Autodesk Support:

  • If you are experiencing issues with OpenBOM for Fusion, you can also contact OpenBOM Support so we can assist where possible and track impact.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Is this an OpenBOM bug?

Not exactly. The issue is caused by recent changes in Autodesk Fusion when accounts are upgraded to Collaborative Hubs, which introduce new APIs and retire some legacy ones. The current OpenBOM for Fusion release needs to be updated to support those APIs.

Did anything change in my OpenBOM configuration?

No. This issue is not related to your OpenBOM settings, data, or usage patterns. If behavior changed after a Fusion hub upgrade, it is most likely related to the hub transition.

Why does this only affect some customers?

Only Fusion accounts that have been upgraded from legacy hubs to Collaborative Hubs are affected. Customers still running on legacy hubs may not see any change.

Can I switch my Fusion hub back to a legacy hub?

No. Hub type and migration are controlled by Autodesk. For questions about migration timing or options, Autodesk recommends contacting your reseller or Autodesk Support.

When will the fix be available?

An updated version of OpenBOM for Autodesk Fusion with Collaborative Hub API support is currently scheduled for release next week. We will notify customers as soon as it is available.

Will the update require any action from me?

In most cases, no. Once the updated OpenBOM for Fusion add-in is released, you will simply need to install the new version. No data migration or reconfiguration is expected.

Could I still see issues after the OpenBOM update?

Possibly. Some behaviors may be related to ongoing Autodesk Fusion platform changes or performance characteristics with very large datasets. These are outside of OpenBOM’s control, but we are coordinating closely with Autodesk to stay aligned.

Is my data at risk?

No. There is no indication of data loss or corruption related to this issue. The problem affects certain operations—not the integrity of your data.

Should I stop using OpenBOM with Fusion until the update is released?

There is no need to stop using OpenBOM entirely. However, if you are experiencing blocking issues in Fusion due to the hub upgrade, you may want to limit affected workflows until the updated integration is available.

Who should I contact for help right now?

  • Fusion hub configuration or migration questions:
    Autodesk reseller or Autodesk Support
    https://www.autodesk.com/support
  • OpenBOM-related questions or issue reporting:
    OpenBOM Support

In closing

Platform transitions like Collaborative Hubs bring meaningful improvements, but they also require coordination across tools and teams. OpenBOM and Autodesk engineers are actively collaborating to address these changes.

We appreciate your patience and your trust, and we’ll continue to communicate clearly as things progress.
