PREVIEW: Altium Designer OpenBOM Add-in – New Features

Working with data is hard, especially when you need to re-enter data multiple times alongside the information flow, duplicate operation, and do copy/paste. Badly organized information flow is the root cause of mistakes, additional costs, and delays. OpenBOM integrates with CAD software which streamlines the flow of information and eliminates the need to deal with complex Excel imports and multiple data copy/paste.

Multidisciplinary BOM

We have a growing number of customers that are focused on solving one very painful problem in product development – a multi-disciplinary Bill of Materials. So how do you create a BOM combining components and elements from mechanical, electronics, and software?

OpenBOM provides an extremely powerful solution to solving multi-disciplinary BOM management problems, thanks to OpenBOM’s Flexible Data Model and multiple integrations with engineering software systems.

I’m super excited to preview a new feature coming in OpenBOM Add-in for Altium Designer. The new improvement in Altium Designer Add-in provides flexible mapping with Altium data and OpenBOM Part Number settings. As you can see in the picture below, a user will be able to select the right property to be used as a Part Number in OpenBOM.

Once it is selected the outcome data to OpenBOM will include this information and use it to identify parts. It is a flexible solution that allows accommodating the needs of many customers. Flexibility is a key in this case and OpenBOM gives it to you.

Conclusion

OpenBOM CAD integrations simplify the way data can be extracted from designs and automatically updated in the engineering bills of materials. Combined with the capability to manage multi-disciplinary Bill of Materials and seamlessly share with contractors and suppliers, OpenBOM gives your organization a powerful way to control and manage data while staying connected with contractors and suppliers.
