OpenBOM Integrated 3D Viewer – We Are Looking for Beta Testers 

I’m excited to share that the last release of OpenBOM introduced an integrated 3D viewer. It is available for Beta testing and we are looking for users and customers interested to check this out. It can be tested by any OpenBOM user, to create a 3D viewer option, you will need OpenBOM Solidworks Add-in to generate 3D viewer objects in OpenBOM. 

3D Viewer is one of the most exciting features of the January 2020 release. Offered in Solidworks integration for the moment as beta, the 3D Viewer adds a link to a full-functioned cloud-based viewer right into your BOM or Catalog.  Boom! You, and everyone you share your BOM with, can view the part or assembly beautifully in 3D; measure, zoom, rotate, it does it all.

Go to OpenBOM settings and choose the multi-level BOM option and check the box to enable the 3D Viewer.  That’s it. Your Multi-level BOM or Catalog will have a new property called “3DView File”

The following view gives you an idea of how it works now. 

The 3D Viewer is currently in the BETA 1 stage. We are going to work on improvements and 3D viewer and will deliver a few more beta versions before it will be released in production status. 

Conclusion.

3D CAD and other files (STEP, PDF, etc.) are very important parts of information that always linked to BOM records. By providing access to 3D Viewer, OpenBOM will give you a great value of a single version of the truth about product information and will allow you to share it with everyone involved in product development, manufacturing, maintenance, and support.
