OpenBOM 2021 Recap

Happy New Year! 2021 is now history and we are excited to share OpenBOM results for 2021 and more details about what we’ve been working on. 

Team and Partnership 

OpenBOM team is fully remote located globally in multiple places in the Americas and Eastern Europe. For the last two years, we’ve been embracing fully remote work with a high level of flexibility. Our philosophy from the beginning was the focus on results and not time zones and working hours. We are passionate about OpenBOM service and our vision to help our customers. We built partnerships to extend our team and bring specialty needed for technology, development, integrations, training, and implementations. Learn more about our partners online. Customer Experience 

At OpenBOM, we are obsessed with our focus on customer experience. Therefore our customer support, training, and marketing work are highly intertwined. 2021 was the year we developed the OpenBOM Premium Customer Onboarding program, which was a great success with hundreds of onboarding sessions and training. Our educational program is highly connected to our online marketing providing training materials, blogs, and videos to help users and customers to use and learn OpenBOM. OpenBOM Contract Manufacturing ebook and Demystify Modern PLM virtual event organized in partnership with Share PLM.

Product 

If you missed my earlier article with my favorite 10 new features from OpenBOM 2021 updates, please check it here. We made 12 production updates in 2021, which means OpenBOM was technically provided new functions, features, and fixes every month. It is part of our continuous improvement and customer experience improvements. 

OpenBOM service was expanding in 2021 to provide full product lifecycle management support to companies looking at how to manage comprehensive data records about their products and help customers to connect and collaborate with contractors and suppliers. 

Here are the most notable functional enhancement and improvements made by the OpenBOM team in the last 12 months: 

  • OpenBOM files storage 
  • Full support for item revisions including file attachments
  • CAD Add-in supports for Item/BOM revisions with multiple file attachments
  • Change Management improvements including Change Orders support 
  • Introducing of OpenBOM Drive for file collaboration and PDM functionality 
  • Improvements in formulas and rollups
  • Fully integrated CAD add-ins for Part Number management
  • Many others 

Business Model and Sales 

At OpenBOM we believe in flexibility to provide the best match to serve customers of different scales and sizes. We support very small companies as well as help departments and teams of S&P 500 global enterprises. 

In 2021, we made a switch to the concurrent licensing model, which expanded OpenBOM unlimited user model, which was supported and loved by all customers. In such a way, OpenBOM also doesn’t limit customers to having as many as needed user licenses, so everyone can start on the same BOM -engineers, procurement, contractors, and suppliers (even if they need to log in to OpenBOM even one time during the month. However, when you scale with a larger number of concurrent users, you can grow and buy more concurrent licenses for users. The subscription model allowed us to scale and grow financially, with x2.5 Y2Y billing growth between 2020 and 2021.
