How OpenBOM Makes PLM Accessible And Understandable In Your Company

In today’s market, it is essential for engineering and manufacturing businesses to have a product lifecycle management (PLM) strategy in order to stay competitive. OpenBOM is an online service (SaaS) and it makes PLM accessible and easy to use for many companies of all sizes. At OpenBOM, we focus on how to develop an easy-to-use interface and subscriptions that are easy to start and scale from individual design contractors, startups, and small manufacturing businesses to NPD teams at large Fortune 500 enterprises looking how to collaborate in the most efficient way.

Modern PLM Training

Jos Voskuil PLM education blog brings up an interesting discussion about PLM training with Helena Gutierrez and her company SharePLM. You should remember Helena from OpenBOM virtual event – Demystifying Modern PLM from the last year. If you missed the event, please check it out. This time Helena and Jos are discussing how sharing information and best practices can help engineers and manufacturing companies to see the big picture of PLM business strategy and implementation. Here is an interesting passage:

The connection between the “WHY” and the “HOW” is really important to get the context, to understand how things work. In today’s world, people want to understand the “WHY”. So in practical terms, we work with customers to prepare a storyline that helps understand the “WHY” in a practical and entertaining manner. This is simple, but it’s a game-changer. When people see the big picture, something “clicks,” and they feel “safe” at first sight. They know there is a blueprint for how things work and how they connect.

However, my absolute favorite is Jos Voskuil conclusion about the modern version of PLM education. Here is the passage:

[Jos Voskuil started his blog ] to share knowledge and experience in PLM. It was a one-way sharing – modern at that time – probably getting outdated in the coming years. However, Helena and the SharePLM team have picked up my mission in a modern manner. They are making PLM accessible and understandable in your company, using a didactical and modern approach to training. SharePLM perhaps does not focus on the overall business strategy for PLM yet as their focus is on the execution level with a refreshing and modern approach – focussing on the end-user, didactics and attractiveness.

We’re fortunate to have SharePLM team as our partners in the education and transformation of PLM- to make PLM systems easier to understand, explain and adopt. The concept of new PLM education integrated into the product development process as a new type of user experience. It is not only about CAD system, bill of materials, data management, but it is about how to understand PLM, change the experience of a manufacturing organization and make technology useful for people.

Education and Digital Transformation

In the world of business, there is always a need to stay ahead of the curve. For small and medium businesses (SMBs), this can be a daunting task, especially when it comes to digital transformation. However, with the right education and training, SMBs can make strides in this area and compete with larger organizations. Transformation involves many areas such as technology, process improvement, marketing strategy, and more. It can be difficult for any organization to keep up with all of these changes, let alone SMBs. That’s why it’s important for these businesses to have access to resources that will help them navigate through this digital age. Education and training are two essential tools for SMBs seeking success in digital transformation.

At OpenBOM we believe in the democratization of PLM systems and making it easy and simple to adopt by a various range of companies. Digital transformation is a trend and process all engineering teams and manufacturing companies are going through these days. And digital transformation can go very wrong without a proper digital shift in people’s minds. In a nutshell, it is about moving from documents to data. It is about how to stop mimicking and old ways to work and explore the process of OpenBOM data management will transform the process of collecting data from CAD systems, combining data from different systems, creating a bill of materials using the technology to connect the data and organize seamless information flows. Together, we help manufacturing companies leave Excel files and move into the future of digital engineering and manufacturing communication.

OpenBOM Training Resources

To help our users and customers, we created a set of online resources that are available for everyone who is coming to OpenBOM – website visitors, users evaluating OpenBOM, customers, and just everyone in the engineering and manufacturing eco-system. You can find OpenBOM resources and training in multiple ways.

You can use all these resources when you start your PLM journey and we will be happy to support you.

What is my conclusion?

At OpenBOM we developed a new approach both from a technological and educational standpoint helping manufacturing companies, engineers, and everyone else to learn more about how to adopt PLM, build a business strategy that fits your organization and expand digital processes support in your organization.
