Friday Talk – Digital Thread and Manufacturing Networks

I was on the Tech backstage podcast earlier today with Tullio Siragusa and Eddie Hudson talking about digital transformation and manufacturing networks. Thanks for inviting me – it was very entertaining and interesting at the same time. I didn’t pay attention to how fast 30 minutes passed while Tullio and Eddie were talking about various topics related to manufacturing and OpenBOM.

Manufacturing is changing and why data intelligence takes a central place?

As we move into the digital future, the focal point of the transformation in the industry is about data and how technology will transform manufacturing companies and help them to use data to run their businesses.

Here is a short list of topics we touched on:

  1. Why did we start OpenBOM?
  2. Manufacturing transformation
  3. What is cloud-washing?
  4. Moving from applications to data
  5. Product data intelligence
  6. How modern technologies will transform manufacturing

…and many other technologies topics. We stopped at the point of talking about different

databases and how polyglot persistence, Graph databases, AWS Dynamo, Lambda, and other geeky topics until we ran completely out of time.

Here is the recording, watch it – I hope you will learn useful things there and come with questions.

Conclusion

We are in a very interesting moment of time in the manufacturing business. The industry is switching from legacy systems to modern technologies and transforming at the same time. What is coming will be fundamentally different. It is not about how to run simulations faster or do 3D modeling cheaper. Companies are switching from applications to data, from controlling data to gleaning intelligence from manufacturing data assets. This is a transformational moment that will turn engineering and manufacturing software into data-centric tools helping manufacturing companies to run their business intelligently.

Check out more about Divelment– they are cool people. For all my American friends and colleagues – Happy 4th of July – Enjoy the long weekend.
