OpenBOM for Altium Add-in: Introducing a New Property Selection Mechanism for Improved BOM Accuracy

OpenBOM for Altium Add-in is a powerful tool that can streamline the process of creating and managing bills of materials (BOMs) for engineering and manufacturing companies. This add-in allows for the automatic extraction of data from Altium Designer, enabling the creation of accurate BOMs and Items in a fraction of the time it would take to manually enter the data. By using OpenBOM for Altium Add-in, companies can save time, reduce errors, and improve overall efficiency.

New Altium Designer Property Selection Mechanism

We are happy to share some really nice improvements to the Altium Designer related to the property selection mechanism – an improved property mapping tool. This enhancement makes it easier than ever to map Altium properties to OpenBOM attributes, ensuring that your BOMs are accurate and consistent across all of your designs.

From the next update, OpenBOM for Altium will offer two methods to manage properties coming from Altium:

  • Automatically map from the existing Altium BOM tool (this is an existing method)
  • User OpenBOM property list editor which has a much better set of functions

The existing method is default and a new method will allow a much simpler mechanism that streamlines the data selection.

Watch the video of how the new Altium Add-in with the new property selection mechanism works.

Benefits of New Property Selections in Altium Add-in

Here are some of the key benefits of this improved property selection mechanism:

  1. Greater flexibility in selection properties: With the new mechanism, you can select Altium Designer properties that will be transferred to OpenBOM in an explicit way. This means you always know what properties will be transferred.
  2. More intuitive property selection process: The new property selection process is designed to be more intuitive and user-friendly. You can now select properties directly from the OpenBOM for Altium add-in, rather than having to navigate back and forth between Altium Designer BOM and OpenBOM.
  3. Improved property selection accuracy: The new mechanism includes a mechanism to review the entire list of properties available in Altium before deciding what property to transfer to OpenBOM. This helps to minimize errors and ensure that your BOMs are accurate and reliable.

In addition to the improved property selection mechanism, the OpenBOM for Altium add-in offers a range of other features to help streamline the BOM creation process such as the usage of templates, mapping to different OpenBOM catalogs using category mechanism, and many others.

Conclusion:

OpenBOM for Altium add-in is a powerful tool for engineering and manufacturing companies looking to streamline their BOM creation process. With the recent enhancements to the property selection mechanism, it is now easier than ever to ensure that your BOMs are accurate and consistent across all of your designs. Whether you are a small business or a large corporation, the OpenBOM for Altium add-in can help you save time, reduce errors, and improve your overall efficiency.
